Alstead, New Hampshire

ALSTEAD - Est. 1735; Inc. 1763. Alstead is a rural town known for its agriculture, mining and mills. It began in 1735 as a line of nine forts built to protect the area from Indian attacks. A near by turbine water mill in East Alstead is one of the last of its types in the region.








Chesterfield, New Hampshire
CHESTERFIELD - Est. 1735, Inc. 1752. The town is located along the Connecticut River Basin in Southwestern New Hampshire. It began as Fort #1 in a line of nine to protect from Indian attacks. Chesterfield is the birthplace of Harlan Fiske Stone, Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court during World War II.
